Original Post

In honor of the 30th anniversary of the Japanese launch of the Virtual Boy, I’d like to announce that I have acquired the ROM for Virtual League Baseball 2 from a former game tester. It wasn’t cheap. I’ve been sworn to keep quiet about all details and I will not be answering any further questions about the acquisition of the ROM.

Special thanks to KR155E, Animesuperj, UnumSolum, dudeway4, RetroOnyx (mellott124), Speedyink, and other anonymous benefactors for their financial and logistical contributions to getting this ROM in the hands of the VB community. We could not have done this without a serious coordinated effort, support, and involvement of one other. In addition, shoutout to Thunderstruck for his help and expertise in digging through the software itself.

Everyone involved in this project has the ROM in their hands, so it’s not at risk of getting lost. I’d like to ask the community at large to please consider donating to help ease some of the financial burden we have incurred from this purchase. Here is the link to donate:

Please send as Friends and Family!

Donations go a long way in assuring that we might be able to one day do something like this again. After the donation period has completed, we plan for a public release to occur on September 21st. I hope you’re all as excited about this as we are!

Here’s some promotional content to give you a taste of what’s to come. Credit to Speedyink for his work on the commercial!

All additional materials, including the box art mockup, commercial, and print ad are fan made and do not represent an official work of Kemco or Nintendo.

Omg!!!

Simply incredible!

Thank you, to everyone that was involved in making this happen!

Happy 30th!

I am speechless!
Donated right away. Thank you guys! Can´t wait until the 21st of September.

We’ve got another unreleased VB game! Today is a great day, big HUGE thanks to everyone involved!!

Hype hype hype!!!

Happy to help. Thanks for the effort.

To quote Benjamin Stevens from March 2013:

“…should there be good reason to think that an almost complete or fully complete prototype cartridge of “Virtual League Baseball 2” would have had to exist..?”

YES!!! 🙂 🙂

This is amazing. Love to soon maybe play it, love to maybe have it, love that you have it. Go go Virtual boy gamers.

That’s really incredible, really! First, Bound High has been found, then Faceball, and then Virtual League Baseball 2 has been found!

Things are getting amazing here.

Great and exciting news. Is a physical release planned?

Heh… I remember writing that. Now we need some more of the games on that list to surface!

Wow!
A second part of an official Virtual Boy Game? Crazy!
Who would have thought that there was something like that?
Thank you to everyone that was involved in making this happen!

Holy $#@¥! Never i thought i would see Virtual League Baseball 2 surfacing once again! All that we need now is the original Japanese version, but that would be extremely unlikely. Everybody should spread the word so that ThrownAway can recoup his investment. I am doing my part in that regard. I can’t wait to play it this September 😀

Inconceivable! Years of being gaslit over some of the other notables like Dragon Hopper and poof, ninja smokebomb style this pops up. Congrats on whatever the details are on this you can eventually reveal vs not however this worked out but great job. Really nice work finally seeing something tangible and good come out once more.

Thanks for all the kind words and support, everyone! We’ve all been so excited to make this announcement – and just as excited for everyone to finally play the game. No physical release is planned. The ROM is small enough to fit on all available flashcarts, including legacy ones like FlashBoy and FlashBoy+.

I think it’s very cool that despite the short life of the VB at retail, it had 1 game which actually ended up having a sequel.

There’s some user reviews slowly being posted by people with the ROM. Both myself and other members of the group have found Virtual League Baseball 2 to me a massive improvement on the original game. I am comfortable placing VLB2 among my favorite titles in the whole library. It is insanely replayable and makes some of the best use of the 3D I’ve seen in any VB game, retail or homebrew.

To all of you who have donated to our fundraiser thus far, we sincerely appreciate your financial contribution. It’s so nice seeing so much support from this community for the 30 year anniversary.

I hope this question is not inappropriate: can you say in % how much you got back via funds of the initally paid amount so far?
If not, no worries, I am just curious 😉

And thanks again for making this possible! The VB community would not be the same without people like you and the other persons having worked in the background on this “project”.

Totally understand the curiosity, abarth! I’m sure you’re not the only one who’s wondering the same. Thus far, we’ve received a small percentage (about 15%) of the total cost in donations. At this point, we don’t anticipate recouping the full amount spent, but if we do, we will announce that and dedicate any additional funds to future such purchases.

We are very humbled of all the positive feedback we’ve received, and it means a lot that so many people have tossed some money our way to help us recoup the significant financial hit of this transaction. Every bit helps, as far as we’re concerned.

Thanks for the honest answer 🙂

Another question: VLB2 has no password system I assume since it uses SRAM saving?
